this totally doesn't get you there, but you could get a mono John Hardy M-2 preamp: and then the units are modular, so you can buy more channels as you go. mono is $1,100, extra pre's run around $650. i'm probably going to do the same soon. i've never actually heard them, but have heard great things about them. i would do this rather than sacrifice quality for price. just my 2 cents. -- lance

RE: Dual Channel Mic Pres??

Rob, check out the 2022 before you buy it. I have an M5 and love it but needed a 2 channel pre for stereo mics so I got the 2022 and have had problems with low level buzz that shows up in Piano and AC Guitar tracks when any gain is required (even -12db down from max gain..) It's been a real problem, I've had 2 units and both do the same thing, No matter which mic or cables. I even took it out of the rack with no connections but power, put loads on the inputs and listened with headphones connected directly to the output and the buzz was still there. My M5 does not have this problem. However, it does sound great on drum OV. I'm still trying to sort it all out with this pre.
