so you are basically saying this white line is a feature that shows according to there samplerate ? I now checked the Audiocards settings, and it was set to 44100 on the internal clock. seemed perfect as this is the same samplerate I always use in my projects. However, I now marked 'external' syn in the Audiocard drivers and the white line is gone. thanks a lot for your help ! I never would have looked there.

Perhaps for some odd reason your sound card was conflicting with a Windows setting when set to internal sync. Do you have an additional sound card as well as the stock device on your mobo?
I have an onboard Realtek sound and atm am running my old PCI terratec Phase 22 on the system that had the ReaEQ issue. I remember I could not get a Focusrite Soundcard to run properly, always telling me somewhere else there is another samplerate. I ended up using the Focusrite card on another system because of that. However, some other soundcards worked without issues (Tascam and Native Instruments) (yes, I do have too many soundcards .g.) I might have to dig deeper into this. Where in my Windows XP system could I possibly check for the things you mention Dannii ?
I found the Windows Sound settings ! The settings for Voice play and voice recording (poor translation of the Gemran Stimmwiedergabe und Stimmaufzeichnung, got no clue what an english windows says there) where set to Realtek instead of the Phase 22. (all other settings where set to choose the Phase 22 as standard sound device. I will now get that damned Focusrite card from the other system and try it again. while I'm at it, I can get rid of these issues at the very root, I guess.
The Focusrite Card still has those issues. I attached the screenshot. Maybe somebody has an idea what to do about it, otherwiese I will just continue to use the Terratec Card, most importantly ReaEQ works again ;) P.S.: all windows settings are set to Focusrite and the samplerate in the focusrite drivers is the same as in Reaper.
