RE: Volvo Reliability? Not across the pond, buddy!

Hi All I've just returned from a fortnight in Canada and the USA. I happened to mention that I hadn't seen many Volvos during my time. The guy we were with said "Buy a Volvo if you want your lights, electrics, etc to fail, and if you want lots of expensive body repairs". Basically, mine host thought Volvos were unreliable crap!! (unlike American cars, presumably, which are all ace and not at all rust prone thirsty pieces of junkeroony). I soon wiped the smile from his fizzog when I said that they've been less well thought of since Ford (an American company) started making them in the 90s. Fancy questioning the reliability of Volvos, humph! m.d.

RE: Volvo Reliability? Not across the pond, buddy!

Hi emmdee, That's a good one lol. I'd sure prefer to drive a 1977 Volvo 240 than anything Detroit had to offer. The problems with American cars of the time are too numerous to list. In fact if I'm not mistaken, the term 'Monday car' originated there. Friday = thinking of going on the lash, Monday = recovering from going on the lash. A midweek car might've had the parts from the right model line fitted. Seems to me that many American cars these days aren't that American anyway, such are the global tie - ups ( particularly with the Japanese ). If the G.M. Saturn is as good as it gets in terms of looks, I'd choose Volvo on that basis alone ( looks like a molten frisbee ). Of course if Volvo are crap these days, that doesn't say much for Dearborn lol ... Cheers, Anthony.
