Split MIDI Track .. lost pan and volume

I recorded a MIDI piano track that was routed to another track output to GPO Steinway. I split the MIDI track and in the process lost the volume and panning info of the right split media item. I would move the edit cursor to a point in the right split media item and could not hear input monitor while in record armed mode. I expected the split item to the right to have the same volume and panning settings as the left but they disappeared in the right split item. Am I overlooking something? TIA

RE: Split MIDI Track .. lost pan and volume

Hello ele7 and welcome to these forums. If I understand you correctly, the Volume and pan MIDI CC messages will only be in the left split MIDI clip (as that is the point at which they were set). The values are not inherited when the MIDI Clip is split. What you could do is: - open the left clip, select "Event List view" - select the Volume and Pan Cc messages (CC07 and CC10) by Ctrl+clicking them - copy them (Ctrl+c) - open the right clip, make sure the edit cursor is at the start of the clip - select "Event List" view - paste in (Ctrl+v) the CC messages. I'm pretty sure that there is a Feature Request for the split MIDI clip to inherit the MIDI CC message values from the original clip. HTH

RE: Split MIDI Track .. lost pan and volume

Thanks Darkstar! That answers my question. I'm new to Reaper (evaluating a switch from Sonar) and I guess I just assumed that the split would in no way alter the volume and pan settings of the original clip. Also, I'm not sure of the procedure to record audio to blend in with a previously recorded audio item. It always renders as a 2nd take and when playing back only the 2nd take is audible. I know it's something simple but I have not been able to get a solution from the manual. Can you comment? Thanks
