Runtime error when scanning plug-ins

MessageAuthor

Hi, Not sure if this is the right place to post this or if is a problem with reaper or Windows, but my t-racks 3 classic eq and amplitude-XGEAR plug-ins (Both IK multimedia) no longer work in reaper and crash when scanning for vst's. Any ideas as to why this has started happening? Will post screenshots of the error messages soon.

RE: Runtime error when scanning plug-ins

Try right-clicking Reaper and choose "run as administrator" and see if it works then. If this does work, it is not a true fix but a troubleshooting step. If it works, then IK is likely trying to make some disallowed change such as writing to it's own settings but located in a protected location such as Program Files or something along those lines. Since we don't know if that is the case, try running it as Admin just to see if this changes the behavior.

Thank you. Ik multimedia just suggested trying the same thing and the plug-ins load up under administrator.

Hopefully you can now run it back under a normal account once the scans complete successfully. It's a bit of a security risk to always run as admin and you'll lose the ability to drag/drop media files into Reaper when running as admin.

Ok I'll try that. They are quite old plug-ins that came bundled with my sound card.

Thanks, it works without running as admin now, just need to do that when a rescan is needed. May look into the new versions as I do use these sometimes, espesialy xgear.

RE: Runtime error when scanning plug-ins

Just as an academic aside, I'm OK if it needs admin for the initial scan, that's what temporary admin rights are for, to allow one-time system changes (such as writing to the registry or install folder) during setup. Since from the IK code perspective, this can be considered the final step of setup (initial scan that inits the product the first time it is loaded in a DAW), I'm not as concerned that it needs these rights on first run.
