Hi- I have a .wav file that I don't want resampled when I insert it into REAPER. It's several seconds shorter than if I open it in Cool Edit, etc., and the Item Properties indicate it's been resampled, which I gather is the reason for the missing seconds. I should probably know this, but how do I tell REAPER to just leave it alone so it stays the original length? It's spoken word only, so I don't care that much about the quality, but I do need to be able to mark times precisely. Thanks! Susan

Hi Susan. You've probably already already checked this, but is there any chance that wav's playrate is being adjusted when you bring it into Reaper? I often deal with items that are indicated as resampled in Properties, but that doesn't introduce timing or length issues.

Thanks for the additional responses, and sorry for the late reply. I get the same results using Insert Media File, or dragging from Windows Explorer, or Media Explorer with tempo match off. The file I'm working on currently is 4:10:29 long according to everything but REAPER, which says it's 4:10:14, so the difference is about 15 seconds, and I need it to be precise. The Playrate is 1.0. Anything else I can check? Thanks- -Susan
What happens if you drag the right edge of the item to right? What happens if you shift the item right and drag the left edge of the item left? Are the notches located at the same positions of the left ie. right edges, prior to dragging them? What does other software, compared to Reaper, show as amount of samples? According to a sample-rate of 44100 Hz a mono-file of the length 4:10:29 should have 662,778,900 Samples (approx., as the length probably is not 4:10:29.00000 exactly) and 15 secs less would be about 661,500 samples less (mono). Do you refer "Playrate" to the main playrate or to the playrate of the item? Could you check the running time on another computer? Is there some video involved? -Data
Thanks for sending the file. What we got was a .wmv, that gets imported as 4:10:29.220 long, using the DirectShow encoder. (However, the video won't play using that decoder.) When you import the item and view source properties, what exactly does it say for length and decoder?
I don't think there's any video, just audio. I just renamed it .wmv because it wouldn't import with the .wma extension. I got a "Could not import 1/1 items." error. The Source properties shows the correct length, 4:10:29, and the decoding format is blank. If I select the item in REAPER the length of the selection is 4:10:14. I can't find out from the person who sent this to me if there is in fact any video with this file until tomorrow, but nothing I've tried shows any, and usually their files are audio-only. Is there a way to know for sure? I don't know if that would effect the length of the item, though, would it? I've never worked with video. :( Thanks- -Susan
