Does anyone here use analog simulation of some kind? If so, what has worked best for you. I've seen ads for the Fatman(i think its called that). Just wondering how well these analog sims work. Thanks.

RE: Analog Simulation

I saw a Fatso at the AES which provided an analoque tape simulation. It did the job but I thought it was overpriced - US Retail 2,499.00. go to Carl

Dude, analog is not only impossible to emulate perfectly, it's FUN! The only reason analog emulation exists is to replace analog gear that competes with the emulation designer's business. Don't look for ways to emulate it unless you've exhausted all feasible options to use it! Using emulators not only comprimises sound quality but also deprives you of experiencing analog gear while it's still around! Just for that, I'm going to go listen to some LP's through my tube amp (Roksan Xerxes, Telefunken/Mullard equiped Audio Innovations S500, ProAc Super Tablettes - AS IF you can emulate that) ~Old man look at my life...~

Hey Carl, the Fatman thing I saw was around $500 so I don't think its the same one. Sugarite, I know analog can't be emulated perfectly, I was just wondering how well it can be. I can't afford a 2" analog recording system. Thanks for the replies.

Analog Channel is fantastic. It gives everything a nice warm sound. I love it. Then again, anything McDSP makes is the bomb. JLB

The Fatso is made by the people who make the Distressor, and it gets rave reviews. The Fatman is a much cheaper compressor made by HHB.
