Can someone give me a suggestion about which, if any free virus protection to install. I heard the PT may have issues with this so I'm not sure if I should put anti-virus software on the new hard drive. After yesterdays crash, I'm trying to cover all bases.

Do I need to shut this down while in PT. Will there be a conflict?

It's usually recommended to shut it down (as well as any network connections) while using PT, yes. However, I frequently leave it running while working without issues.
