0.9.9.6 with CoreVorbis is working very well... there is only one thing (at least for me) which will not work with 0.9.9.6: - the splitter no longer passes tags via IAMMediaContent...
RE: Matroskas CoreVorbis DS - How to use for ogm files?
Thx for the quick replys. When using the DS 0.9.9.6, the Core Vorbis Filter is being used for playback just fine. The sad thing is, this filter isn't working as good as I first implied. While the stuttering is much less occurent, it still there and not really tolerable. Using the Matrix Mixer btw seems to make things worse. So I guess the only way seems to be switching to DirectSound whenever I want to watch ogm files... and to get the ogm files to play on my DD5.1 Receiver, I need to convert them to mp3 - at least until there is a newer version which makes Core Vorbis mor compatible for WaveOut output. If I missed anything, feel free to reply. thx wiz

Thx, this page seems to be much more accurate than the one I'd found. I am currently getting into this whole thing seems interesting. So far whenever I had wanted CD Quality I used LAME with the --r3mix command (which is proven as CD Quality by r3mix.net, which btw seems to be non existant anylonger) and was happy with it. The conclusion of the test you pointed out is that lame is definitely inferior to the other formats (in this bandwidth range). In this test MPC (which i assume is musepack = mpegplus) won the quality contest, but afaik there's no DirectShow Filter for it yet, is there? As for AAC - The best quality encoder (info from seems to be the Quicktime one, and this one is not free. Much more the free one is even the worst of the tested encoders - particularily don't like that - I think audio encoding should be free and the best one at that :D. For the reasons mentioned above i don't like using Vorbis, which would lead me to microsofts audio codec. And that's what I'd like to avoid simply because its microsofts codec :). Any more info regarding this matter is gladly appreciated. wiz

Regarding AAC - if you're referring to FAAC, remember that Psytel is free as well and does pretty well in most listening tests. As it is no longer in development it will eventually be bypassed I'm sure by other encoders but right now it is still competitive. MPC is musepack, there is a directshow filter, but it can't be muxed with video - yet. Here's a . As far as MP3 goes, r3mix is outdated, --alt-presets are your best option for MP3 today. Especially on this and on all these issues I should point you to your new friend .

You really helped me out with these things. I can finally say that I am about to get up-to-date with all the mp3 and aac stuff. So until that's done, thx for the info - yes, I guess I will be spending some time on hydrogenaudio :D. Let's see what the future holds for the MPC format, and if it will be the next "best" solution for audio in videocontainers. Thx for your time. wiz
