Sorry to post about this here, but I love this site. Ok, My macistosh (G4)just can't get along with AOL, is slow, it brakes to the point where it becomes impossible to navigate, refuses to open sites, and much more, the only solution I found yet, it is to reinstall Aol to my comp but just to log on and see two or 3 sites and then it brakes and I have to go to the same proces again. Does Mac sucks at dealing with internet? or I have someting wrong on the comp? Please any help will be very apreciated.

Yeah, Mac's are terrible with the internet, but being on AOL, the greatest network ever conceived, should make up for that. I wonder what the problem could be... </sarcasm>

HS, You should be able to just dialup the AOL servers using a normal PPP dialer and then use IE 5 to surf. I use IE 5 with my mac all day with no probs at all. I'm not sure of the way that AOL does the dialup stuff. Do you dialup by using the normal Apple Remote Access stuff? If not, then you could use AOL to dial up for you, then while it's dialed up just start surfing with IE 5. Let me know how this goes. For your info, I use IE 5(.5) for surfing and Outlook Express for my email. In OS X, I have been using IE 5.1 (a "carbonized" version of IE), and the Mail app that comes with it. Very nice. Macs definitely don't "suck" when it comes to the internet!

i'm a pc guy - don't know much about macs, but i do know AOhell. when aol is installed, it tries to commandeer your machine. it takes over network settings, changes system settings and loads apps that try to run in the background all the time. in fact, its so bad, that some lawfirm is suing aol over this - claiming that they lost control over their machines. on top of that (for pc - don't know about mac) because of the way it takes over your system files, the only way to 100% purge aol is a fresh windows install. getting a cable modem was like a godsend for me. if that's not available for you, i would highly recommend getting a local ISP so that you don't need to install that virus of a program onto your machine.

In fact, it was a 'known' issue that after your first logon to AOL on Windows 95, 'streamed' code altered certain system files...and one in particular became %200 larger- strangely- dialup's to all other ISPs stopped working. BTW- I believe slow down you're experiencing may be AOL trying to disconnect you. But there is now a fix. And for Mac OS. Search for a post by Bruce (Digidesign Administrator). I've forgotten the name... I'm waiting anxiously for the earthlink version.

RE: Very off topic, Mac, and AOL problem!!!

I work at an ISP. I use a b+w G3 all day, but I have to say, I don't like using I.E with it. I find that Microsoft products don't work as well as they could with Apple. I would use Netscape. The AOL interface is based on IE...which explains a lot to me. I used to use AOL on my Mac at home and it gave me tons of problems...along with drop connections and rude tech support...I started to develope ill feelings. Netscape works very well, however, I don't recommend the 6.x version. Very large app and very slow. The 4.x versions are fine. I currently run IE and Netscape at work...on a nice T1 connection. The explorer is nice when it's working...but I often get URL errors...and when you shut off your IE...it doesn't give your RAM back to you until you restart your computer. So it's munching away at 10Megs of ram when you aren't even running it. That's a drag. IMHO
