And it is getting the 1.6 litre turbodiesel with 108bhp: I thought installing the 2.0 litre engine was a mad idea but this has to be. An engine of that size and power just simply isn't suitable for what is supposed to be an executive car.

It has got to be part of the plan to comply with the EU's forthcoming average C0 emissions rules. I'll still be planning on getting the new twin turbo D5 down the line.:car:

Yes, manufacturer's under pressure now to comply with emission laws. What I have been wondering is, when it comes to the day that all the older high emissions vehicles have to get off the road, and that day will come, what will happen to the all the beautiful old classics which people still drive around in. Are they all supposed to be doomed to end up in the scrapyard?

All car manufacturers have to have cars in their range which are under 120g/km otherwise they will not be able to shift them due to either current tax systems like Spains or coming schemes such as the German one to be implemented 1st July 2009. A 1.6D V70 is purely for the co. car driver worried about BiK but needing the extra space. Governments will have you believe all the current auto woes are down to the credit crunch but they have not helped with new tax regimes. Part of the problem in the UK is everyone knows the road tax is going to get hammered in years to come so until the Gov. show their hand, who is going to risk thousands of pounds ? It's one thing if you HAVE to change car but I suspect many people are holding off changing for the sake of change or because the car is now three years old until the Gov. give some indication of what their future plans are.
