PT for Mac?

Maybe this has been discussed before but ive herd rumours for the last couple of days of Digi abandoning the mac platform. I cant imagine that nor do I want to believe it. But as I contemplate buying HD in the next couple of weeks I cant help but be skepical. I know the local traing center here in Nashville has switched out all of their Mac systems to Windows XP systems. Hmmmm. Apple buyning Emagic have anything to do with this? Mills Logan

RE: PT for Mac?

This is deffinately BS, 90% of protools users (TDM and HD) use a Mac to run there system, if Digi decided to not include mac support in there future releasees they will go bankrupt; plain and simple. By the way where did you here this rumor?

RE: PT for Mac?

You read recpit too much. the only reason why apple bought emagic was to create that toy "soundtrack loops" which is now part of the Final Cut Pro suite. thats why Logic is still kludgy at best and will remain so. the digi abandoning mac rumor goes along with all the other rumors about digi. you would think that somewhere digi is actually run by john ashcraft and also installs 2 way spyware on your computer if you were to believe all the rumors that are out there.

RE: PT for Mac?

well im glad to see the post like this. Im definately on your side. Im just wanting to see if anybody knows more than we do. Another local engineer here said that. And my argument was the same. Most PT users are Mac. But in the world of Digi we are the last to know! Also just look at the number of users on PT for Mac OS 106,000 post versus PT for Windows 5,000 post. Hopefully just a BS rumour Mills Logan

RE: PT for Mac?

I think that last statement is a little inaccurate. The biggest ents medium (even with current problems) is music followed by video games, then TV, then movies and finally radio. And certainly the likes of SX, nuendo, Digi 001 , TDM, etc etc FAR outsell their pro-video counterparts - so far that is. There are a LOT more recording studios than there are TV/Video companies. The figures in the UK for 2001/2002 as revenue turnovers - Music 2 billion Games 1 billion movies 780million The sources are Music Week, Develop and MCV if you want to check them out. and I believe the same proportions are roughly true worldwide. Wait and see what apple to with emagic would be my suggestion rather than idle speculation. And see if they try to buy Universal. Apple needed/wanted some of the music pie and emagic needed to sell up to sustain. Its only a similar story to the Steinberg sitch.

... oh and adding elements of logic (effects etc) to final Cut Pro is an obvious and cost effective way to add value to a product. they've bought Emagic so it only makes sense to 1. Make cross product compatibilities easier (import logic sessions eventually into vid spotting s/w) 2. Improve their products over their rivals with very little overhead cost. For other vid progs to do this will take either their own suite development (with no product trust), licensing a third party product - (not cost effective) - or buying an audio company to do the same thing. the options are limited.
