still crashes with previous reaper version, and thanks for the tip about portable install. didn't have to "trash" my current install, yay. as the event viewer was mostly telling about different *.sep files, i googled around and seems those files are created by synthmaker. and now i've been using non synthmaker synths for hours and not a single crash, yay! there was also ms-windows vista updates around the same time when these crashes started to happen, so i'll maybe test tomorrow if i can undo any of those and see if it makes a difference.

Yap, synthmaker stuff are known to cause crashes, mainly when using multiple instances in the same project, IIRC.

"restarting reaper after it's crash, it doesn't find the venom anymore (nor does the m-audio driver app)" m-audio venom driver sometimes stays busy when the app using it crashes - you can see it if you open the driver window - in the upper right corner you should have "connected" if it is "streaming" it means that some process occupies the driver - in my case what is sufficient is to run task manager app and look for reaper.exe in the tasks, or reaper host. Kill those tasks and return to the m-audio driver window to check if it's still "streaming".
