Question about Ducking (Music w/ Vocals)

MessageAuthor

I have recorded myself singing the song Wind Beneath My Wings in the style of Bette Midler. I want to now use 'ducking' on the music while I am singing. Here is a list of my tracks in this project: Track #:Vox BUSS Vox Lead Vocal Vox Slap Back Music (Folder) - All instruments get routed to this folder Drums Tambourine Bass Piano Electric Piano Synth Pad Synth Voice Synth Keys I've been watching a Kenny Gioia video on ducking and I understand what he is saying, however, in his video the music is all on one track. Since I have multiple tracks, how do I apply ducking when there are multiple instrumental tracks? My first guess is to apply the ducking on the music folder somehow. Do I have that right? If not, what should I be doing here?

I will investigate your suggestion and let you know what happens. At risk of being hyper technical here, you said route everything to a BUSS. I understand what those are. However, I currently have all the instruments in a folder. Does it matter at all if I simply use a standard track as a BUSS vs. using a folder?

or.... I doubt that you want to duck the musical spectrum en todo. How about ducking the music folder with a multi-band Comp where the (main) action is happening only in the frequency range that competes with the Singer's main frequency range? ;-)
