Thanks for replying. I do have cable broadband and you are right would like to add 802.11b access point to it. The nature of my problem is I have 2 pcs and a broadband cable setup box. When I plug in my D-link router I am able to connect to the setup page on the ip address it gives, selecting the settings of dynamic IP address etc however cannot link to the www otherwise (just this ip address). I am able to connect with the pc directly next to the dlink router though a cardbus but not directly though the ethernet port (which I what I would like to do) for some reason that does not work. My aim after is to connect another pc to the router via wireless though either carbus or wireless pci adapter however as cannot get access point working have hit a quandry. I think that the router acts as a firewall however am not hiding behind one otherwise and connecting the router directly to the ISP cable box. Does this answer your question - I avoided the terms sorry as do not know their exact usage. I believe that the cable uses a dynamic isp so have confihured for this but maybe wrong - this is the link to how cable modems are configured with ntl may e you will understand it more - I am using windows xp home as an op system.
