RE: I have Cubase SX2 but I just tried Reaper and.....
Actually, ALL of the audio editing in REAPER is done non-destructively. Also . . . if you haven't done so yet, do make a point of downloading the manual as well. It's well written and well organized (much more so, IMHO, than for example the Cubase manuals). So the answers to a lot of initial questions will probably be quickly found in the manual. Not that folks around here don't like to help (i.e., I don't mean that in a snooty "RTFM" kind of way)! :)

Reaper has automatic PDC and, something which I've recently learned, give you a readout of how much latency each individual plug is adding, so, if you experience too much latency it's easy to find the culprit.

I've used Cubase before, but for what i need, Reaper is the Dogs BoLL*cks!!! very easy to use, very intuitive...it can get as deep as you want it too without too much hassle... highly recommended. -monkey-
RE: I have Cubase SX2 but I just tried Reaper and.....
I'd been using Cubase SL v.1 but recently switched to REAPER and am loving it. There's a lot to learn but the effort has been worth it. Cubase has features that REAPER lacks but the reverse is true as well. I love having plug-ins be so easy to move around! In addition to downloading the manual, I recommend getting the PDF file that lists the default keyboard shortcuts. Good luck!

Yes, and I like the way you can actually run Reaper from a flash drive, whereas you need a dongle to run Cubase from your hard drive.
