I'm currently using a Faderport, but am thinking about expanding to a larger control surface so I can control plugins with physical knobs. I'm intrigued with Console 1, but I'm also a bit hesitant because it only works with Softube's own plugins at this point. Anyone have any experience with it? Is it worth buying or should I wait until it has the ability to control third party VSTs? Or look at something else entirely?
It is not meant to be as generic plugins controller - so it will be useless for you. You may try the Novation Nocturn instead. Console 1 is an console channel strip emulation and that is its main advantage. I love using it, except lack of integration with Reaper - which makes the preparation of mixing session time consuming.
If you have Console 1 laid out on all tracks of the mix (that is the hard work part at the moment - because of the poor integration), you do not need to look at fx window at all, you choose the tracks which you want to work on from C1 an its own UI. So when you have to get to other plugin you need to use mouse to engage it. I love that when I use C1 I am in different mindset - I am actually listening and working using my hands as in analog eqs', not focusing on screen/mouse :)

Thanks, sqby. That different mindset is why I am interested in it. Is Console 1 able to pull the track numbers and names from Reaper like it can with some other DAWs or do you have to manually number and name the tracks in Console 1 to correspond with what you have in Reaper? Any issues using it in Reaper?

Ok it will have a higher fader resolution, which is great, but at the moment you are speaking about non existant product. It was supposed to have its premiere last year and still is not in production. Still they did not present the extensions for it. At the moment Qcon Pro is the best DAW controller concerning the price. To control plugins I would recommend using novation nocturn with its automap. But after working with Console 1 (and going through hell of preparing session for mix) it is a game changer for me.
