Headlight washers - Oil leak - Smoke - Boost

Not an uncommon feeling "how did I end up buying this piece of junk" after you've had the car for a few weeks. I think the magic numbers are 100-120K on the clock and the fact that at this point certain things need changing. The only thing going for these cars is that in the main, you can do everything yourself if you're fairly mechanically minded and there is a huge amount of information available online. Good luck with the rest of it.

RE: Headlight washers - Oil leak - Smoke - Boost

Thanks for your advice Guys! I'm still aching from 10 hours work yesterday! but boy was it worth it! To be fair there was quite a bit of taking breaks and eating going on. Also some bolts sheered in the throttle bracket and had to be drilled and tapped, which didnt eactly speedthings along. Replaced breather system enitirely. Every vacuum hose has now been changed for silicone. Including junking the volvoe elbows for nicley routed silicone hose, also Oil and filter change (now that the oil treatment seems to have cured my leak at the back, which i reakon was the oil return as it only leaked with the engine running). I did remove my injectors, just couldnt get manifold off without doing it, but i'm glad i did as the gunk in the injectors was nasty. Cleaned up real perty like! I also cleaned out all the big intake pipes (low n high pressure) and the sensor on the elbow going into the turbo, it was so gunked up. As was the throttle body and the buttely was gunked up too. I love Volvo, this is my 5th Volvo, but the breather system is shockingly badly designed on the 850 T5. Damn meatball eating naked sauna taking ikea selling freaks (joking, i love Sweden!). Now the 112k mile engine is AMAZING, not in terms of power (always had that!) but its now just so rediculously smoooothe. It sounds like a sewing machine (in a good mechanicle way! the exhaust growls nicely). I temporarily fitted a crappy autogauges boost gauge to get some idea of what was really going on, i've now got the MBC running an indicated 13.5psi in the cold night air; me driving and a mate watching the gauges doing boost runs up constitution hill in Kidderminster at midnight :-) . Why are there always so many police about when your meauring boost in 4th gear? I'm happy with the performace until i can get the suspenion done, then more power from an ECU. Power is nothing without control! I wonder if the cruise control works now? Cheers all
