subtitle problems with recode 2

I have just tried to make a backup copy of a movie with nero recode 2 and the subtitles doesn't work with my standalone dvd player (samsung dvd-611). The movie works fine but when enabling subtitles nothing happens. However, when trying on a different standalone dvd player (technica dvd451), the subtitles where completely normal. Anyone who know what might have happened?

RE: subtitle problems with recode 2

After some testing I come up with a solution on how to display subtitles in the samsung player. The trick was to go into the menu and select the first subtitles on the screen (which in this case was russian) to get the wanted subtitles. It seems like recode messes up the menu a bit with the subtitles?

RE: subtitle problems with recode 2

@brynolf Put your copied disk in your drive, and open Nero's CD/DVD Speed utility. Once it displays the information about the drive your disk is in, look at the disk type. If it's formated as a DVD-R (or +R, depending on the media), that could be your answer. Many set tops that are rated for being able to read recordable media will do so... but not quite smoothly. Navigation problems seem to be the most common hicup, but others here have also noticed "stuttering" of their video streams (I was one of them). If it's formatted as a DVD ROM, these problems seem to disappear. Of course -- as you've discovered -- other set tops seem to have no issue with playing back recordable media. Lots of booby-traps, this hobby has. *sigh* Also, let us know what brand of drive you're using along with what format you burned to... you may be able to change the format setting quite easilly. Hope this helps! :) Happy New Year! :)

RE: subtitle problems with recode 2

Well, I can tell right away that it is not a media related problem since I've used this kind of media lots of times before and never had any problems with them. When doing a backup copy with dvd shrink everything worked fine. It seems the problem is that recode actually removes the subtitles and their references on the dvd, while shrink lets the subtitle links remain even though the subtitles aren't there. Then again, where would the fun be if there weren't any problems? ;) The backup was made with a nec nd1300 using a traxdata 4x dvd-r.
