I'm suffering thru PTFREE!!! Is there any way to get around the latency that forces me to slide tracks after recording. I have the musician's monitor their performance from the mixer while tracking with the audio of the first track from the computer as to avoid the latency echoo o o o o. Will DAE buffer size help this? Any info that will save me time for at least another month till I get 001. Thanks Rough

Get a different soundcard would be my answer. But you are going to get a digi001, and that will (in most cases) get your latency down to the point it is almost unnoticable, especially if you use "low latency monitoring". The way around this is indeed track with a mixer and nudge. You can set a nudge-value. So maybe its a good idea that you set that value, and then after recording you only have to select that portion, hit the minus-key on the numeric keypad and voila... The buffer size will help. try setting lower values, but at some time you will get errors. Then you have set it too low. PTFREE somehow needs a lot of buffering...

Hey Bastiaan! I appreciate the info. I'm currently using an M-Audio 24/96 card which has been sooo much cleaner sounding than the built in audio on the MOBO. PTFree has been a great production tool for cutting commercials but, multi-tracking is a whole new ball game. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks Rough

I have the audiophile, too but protools refuses to cooperate good enough(it uses the wave driver, doesn't have asio support). So i track into cubase and when i'm done i move to PT for mixing. It's perfect for this.Huge sound.

I just noticed in this discussion that Rough mentioned Echo o o o. Quite a clue there. Rough, when you're recording a track, click the Mute button for that track. This will get rid of the echo and will allow you to hear the track recorded in real time.

Hey driven1 I've been doing that but the new track is latened by what seems to be a secons(1"), forcing me to slide tracks. I read your reply to me on the SBlive stuff and I will change the settings you mentioned and I will look up new drivers for my 2496. PTFree has been a great tool for minor radio commercial production. I was just trying to push forward a little more than Free will let me. "Respect and Honesty Breed Integrity" Thanks Rough
