Crashing after RAM install

Howdy All! Just installed the maximum amount of RAM on my system(PT6.4 HD 1 card on MAC G4 1.25 Panther)also installed Spectrasonics Stylus RMX and Atmoshepre. Now when I'm in audio record(just plain VO record session) ProTools will crash during record. Has happened twice since the install. The RAM was bought from Crucial and was the suggested upgrade. Thanks for any insight.

RE: Crashing after RAM install

In my experience, bad RAM will bring down the whole computer, not just one given program. Have you checked the Pro Tools Troubleshooting thread? Have you tried any of the basic Mac troubleshooting tricks (reset PRAM, trash prefs, etc.)?

RE: Crashing after RAM install

Thanks Josh, Trashed the prefs and so far it is rock solid, I have always been hesitant to install new software and RAM on a system that is working fine, but had a good year and needed to get some money off the books, so I figured I would make some perfomance upgrades. When I encountered this problem on my first session since the install, I was cursing myself pretty heavily. Thanks for the suggestions, they seem to have worked, any thoughts to as "why" this kind of thing could happen.

RE: Crashing after RAM install

Glad to hear everything worked out. I know it is frustrating when you upgrade (or add plugs, etc.) and stuff breaks, but that's the way of the world unfortunately. As to why, well, it could be so many different things, I wouldn't know where to begin. Preference files have always been a flaky thing on Macs; they seem to get written to over and over again, and sometimes small errors occur that can cause big headaches. Better to just delete the files and have to reset all of your prefs. JB
