I've been using Reaper for close to a year now, but I still feel I'm only scratching the edge, so I'm happy to post this in newbieland :) Here's the problem I'm struggling with: I want to take the midi output of one VSTi (sequencer), and redirect it into another VSTi. (synth) I've tried several approaches: 1) put the VSTi's on separate tracks, and use a send to route the midi output from the sequencer (pre-fader, post FX) to the synth 2) put the sequencer and synth on the same track, and use drop the JS:Midi Router plugin to route the midi from sequencer to synth 3) put the sequencer on one track, along with the JS:Midi Router plugin to route the midi from the sequencer to the synth (which is on its own track) In all cases, the sequencer midi is not reaching the synth - Ideas???? P.S. If you're wondering why I'm running a VST sequencer within Reaper, check out 'Atomic' ()
Right click the ins/outs button for the plugin generating the MIDI and make sure "allow VST to send/modify MIDI" is enabled. Then you should be able to put a vsti next in the chain, or send to another track, and have everything work.

Still no joy, the synth is now receiving midi, but it's the signal which is driving the sequencer. i.e the sequencer midi out is not reaching the synth. I guess I'm making a fundamental assumption that Atomic IS sending its sequenced midi - not sure how to proove this?

Hello bubble and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. Make sure that you purchase Nicholas' excellent User Guide and ReaMix docs too. Worth their weight in gold. User Guide:.. ReaMix:....... Purchase:.... Distribution:. Nicholas has also written "Home Recording for Beginners", available at all good book shops: If you can, get hold of a copy of the Computer Music Beginner's Guide Special #32 - it's full of tutorials for beginners, using Reaper. This site will ship it internationally: ================================================== ========== To check that Atomic is sending its sequenced MIDI, set the Record mode (the [R] button) to "Record output (MIDI)", record a clip and check that it is what you're expecting. I don't know Atomic, but this is what I have done with noatikl (a comprehensive, flexible, alogorthmic MIDi generator): -- add noatikl to track 1 -- sends its MIDI output, channel by channel to other tracks (so that I can record the generated MIDI) -- send those tracks to a VSTi (sampleTank in this case) where the audio is generated. So your Option (1) should work - double-check that you have enabled the MIDI send section. Here's a screenshot: Big pic: HTH
Perhaps you could compress a simple problem project file into a ZIP file and post it here as an attachment so we can have a look at it and see what's (not) happening? In XP, right-click the project file, select Send To ... compressed (Zipped) folder), when you reply, scroll down a bit, open the "Additional Options" section if needed by clicking the double downwards arrows, click on [Manage Attachments], browse to your ZIP file, select and Upload it.
