Here goes.. I am trying (unsuccessfuly) to sync a umatic player with audio TC out (LTC) thru a sync box (XRI300) to my new DIGI001. I have been doing this with an ancient ATARI running cubase for a couple of years. Because of this I know it can be done, and the equipment I'm using is good. The problem is really simple. I can't get the DIGI001 to see MTC let alone respond. I have re-read the manuals, spoken to the re-sellers support team, to your own support team, and still got nowhere. When trying to get it to work I am feeding an MTC into DIGI001. I have auto configured the OMS program and enabled MTC. In Pro Tools I have gone to peripherals in the set-ups menu and set the device to DIGI001. I have enabled INPUT DEVICES to send MTC. The only thing I can think of at the moment is that maybe I need to buy an external clock. The XRI300 kicks out LTC and MTC only. Is there any comprehensive set of instructions that you could give me? I am going mad and losing clients. Hope you can help.
We understand Digi has a 'fix' for the MTC problem in the 001 MIDI port. Download it and try this all again. Good luck. BTW- didn't someone from Digi tell you this?
The MTC problem on the 001 midi port, if I'm not mistaken, was only MTC out not MTC in. However, you can download the Digi System Init/DAE combo that addresses this to make sure. It's available here on the Digi website. What you'll need to do is track down the MTC from source through out the whole chain to see where it fails. Starting with the XRI300, trace the MTX each step fo the way. 1) Verify that you are sending MTC and not LTC from your XRI300 to the 001. 2) In OMS, make sure that the device you created for your MTC source, the XRI300, has send and recieve MTC enabled. 3) In OMS, there is a SMPTE reader that you can open up to see whether or not the timecode is reaching OMS. If the timecode is reaching OMS, then go to the Session setup window in Pro Tools and take a look at the "Current Time" field in the upper right hand corner of that window. If timecode is making it in, then you will see it there. 4) In Pro Tools, check the "input devices" under the Midi menu and verify that the XRI300 is enabled. Thanks for the quick response, I'll try the download suggestion this afternoon. Ribber Starkey [This message has been edited by ribberstarkey (edited June 09, 2000).]
John C, I have been out of town, and I have a couple clients with 001's and MTC snickers....Did I hear coreectly? (I AM out of the loop, I know..) does the update you describe allow 001 to generate MTC? Please let me know, that would be a life saver for these folks... Both of these cats are hip hop guys with MPC's and tons of other synths, wanting to use the 001 as the master......... Sean Halley
Hi, I am looking for a box that will make the 001 lock to a BetaSP Deck so that I can lay back the audio files synced to the Video images. Please tell me more about this sync box that you are talking about, XRI 300? Who makes it, sells it, and how much? Thanks!

Sean. I am sure the fix is 'in the mail' i.e. 5.0.1 update is being sent out as this posts. On the ongoing sync saga...the 001 can receive sync clock via s/pdif? Check my post regarding BNC to s/pdif conversion:

Hi, I am still trying yo get my system to sync to the xri300. In theory it should work fine. Given that it can be done, you can get the XRI300 from a large shop called Turnkey Media in London. I don't have a tel. number at hand, but they do have a web site/mail order. Hope this helps. Ribber Starkey
Dear Jon, There is no SMPTE reader in version 2.3.8 OMS (as supplied with version 5.0LE) that I can see. When I set it to test mode it does acknowledge midi input when I push play on my umatic, but I cannot verify what it is seeing. Where do I find this SMPTE reader you're talking about? R.S.
